Paralympics Torch Tour
Rio 2016 ParalympicsGB Torch Tour
Undeterred by the rain, Camp School were in carnival mood this morning as they enjoyed an exciting visit from the ParalympicsGB Rio 2016 Torch Team.
The whole school community were able to cheer the celebratory torch procession through the school with the actual Rio 2016 Paralympic torch taking centre stage.
Prior to the torch tour our Year 5 and 6 pupils had the opportunity to take part in workshop activities designed to increase their understanding of Paralympic sports, sportsmanship and values. As a school we then nominated pupils from each year group and other members of the school community who demonstrate the Paralympic values – who were designated Guardians of the Paralympic Flame.
We were so pleased to have the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Gill Clark in attendance for the event.
The Rio 2016 ParalympicsGB Torch Tour will visit just 100 primary schools across the UK and is funded entirely by a grant awarded by The Spirit of 2012. It does not visit any other countries before the 2016 Paralympic Games take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between 07 – 18 September 2016.
The tour presents a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the Paralympic Movement and the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, and to inspire young people through the Paralympic Values: courage, determination, equality and inspiration.
