PARENT WORKSHOPS
MATHS WORKSHOP
To support our parents in understanding curriculum expectations, a number of parent workshops take place. For parents who were unable to attend the Maths session, the materials used during the workshops can be found here:
The New Mathematics Curriculum ks1 parents
The New Mathematics Curriculum ks2 parents
We provide opportunities for parents to come into school and share learning alongside their children. Information on these will be shared with parents at intervals throughout the year.
In June, Mrs Du Plessis, our Maths subject leader, has delivered a session to parents in Reception, Yrs 1 and 2 for them to hear about how we teach maths in these year groups. This was a chance to hear about the different methods and models we use when teaching maths as well as a chance to see the manipulatives (resources) we use to support the children’s understanding.
READING WORKSHOP
In the Summer term, we invited parents into school to show how we teach reading and give tools on how families can support reading at home. If you would like to view the Power Point from this session, please click here.
BUILDING BLOCKS
Building Blocks is a programme of workshops for new Receptions parents that takes place in the Autumn term each year. Parents can watch their children being taught and then work alongside them to understand how to support the children to develop key skills in phonics, reading, writing and number.
“I really enjoyed my building blocks sessions. It was so helpful to gain an insight into how my child is taught, see them engage in their learning, and then have the opportunity to do activities with them. It was lovely to witness the warm relationship between the teachers and the children and see their enthusiasm about learning. I now feel far more confident in supporting my child at home.”
